5.31.26 FISHING REPORT

I purposely waited until June 1st to write this report. That's because I had a bac-to-back guide trip scheduled for the end of the month. And I wanted to include the most updated report.

With water temps in the 84 to 88 range, the thermocline is sitting right at 12ft. This sets-up well for certain presentations. Over tall water, the schools of bass are sitting between 8-10ft, just above that line. This played big, as more than half our fish came on the silent (but deadly) Rapala DT8. The retrieve varied, but generally they hit on the longer pauses. We mixed in a few jerk-baits and topwaters, but the DT was the star. Natural shad colors, of course.

When that bite died off, we'd head to shallower water. Trying to find that magic 6-8ft zone. This is where the square-bills and weighted wacky rigs got bit. We were catching average sized fish, but the wacky produced the two largest of the weekend. As predicted, the evening bite was back on, at the same location as the morning bite... right back to the DT8.

With MUCH warmer weather in the months to come, this bite may not last too much longer. It will most likely get to where we have to throw worms and creatures in the timber for the foreseeable future. Probably into September.

Regardless, we'll keep chunkin & winding. You certainly can't catch'em sitting in the Barca-lounger. Cover-up and sunscreen is the ticket for a while. Get out early. Take a mid-day nap. And go out late. There's still fish to be caught! But only if you come ATTACK THE NAC!
